Parent Feedback:
"I had always secretly dreaded taking my child to
school. Not for the usual reasons, I am not citing seperation anxiety.
But in this day and age who wants to relegate even a moments authority
over one's child's well being. The choices we make now are the past
we are creating for ourselves and our children. So what if it is
a mistake? These were my thoughts standing in the school about to
speak with Colleen, the head teacher.
'I know your child is your most precious possession, so I expect
we will talk frequently and I will be sure to update you on his
progress regularly.' she said with a sincerity that belied the presumption
that she had oft spoke these words.
That was all I needed to open the flood gates of discussion. She
too has a child and knows what it is to be concerned for the child's
wellbeing and the care and feeding given to a blossoming intellect.
I think that sums up the school for me. It is not perfect but there
exists a dialogue by which we can mend, amend, and grow through
whatever trials arise. This is community as it ought to be and it
is what was absent from my own youth as I was raised by an education
system that had a voice but lacked ears."
